Visual: Pours cloudy orange-brown with minimal lasting head, fine foamy 1mm layer of retention, clusters of steady active streams.

Nose: faint subtle sour funk’d barley malt (lvl-3)-pungency

Attack: crisp, thick fullness, creamy

Mid-palate: sour overtones, sharp numbing resiny-pine, (lvl-5)-sweetness, soft toffee barley malt,

Finish: subtle banana wheat malt exhale, grainy barley malt, lingering metallic hopped bitterness

Summary: The combo of oats for creaminess, wheat for fruitiness, and barley as the backbone works well in this brew. This IPA is the dry, piney variety – good stuff, but I wished for more fruity citrus to round it out. Easy for 7.4%.

  • Taste: Supremely creamy smooth heavy alcoholic toffee soft grapefruit barley malt
  • Where I got it : Legacy Liquor / Vancouver

  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: excellent mouthfeel

Visual: Pours translucent luminescent orange with a large 3cm head, a 1cm layer of retention, ultra-sticky lacing, tight clustered slow steady streams.

Nose: sweet toasty bready toffee barley malt, dull citrus hop overtones. (lvl-8)-pungency

Attack: super smooth thick-creamy entry, incoming alcoholic malts

Mid-palate: continuously creamy, background subdued tanginess, (lvl-5-sweetness), thick toffee-grapefruit citrus barley malt,

Finish: resiny-numbing hops, residual medium hopped bitterness

Summary: Quite a bold one, monstrously meaty toffee malts and a somewhat dull grapefruit hop component. It drinks on the darker, weightier side, but still has enough tangy brightness to keep it balanced. You can certainly taste the Danish To Øl quality.

my first To Øl beer which I’m pretty amped up about given that they and Mikkeller share the same roots. Here’s more info about their story on their website.

  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes, wicked complexity

Visual: Pours cloudy opaque dirty orange/brown with a small 1cm head, a thick fine layer of lasting retention, fast loose clusters of streams.

Nose: bright fragrant citrus hop oils (lvl-5)-pungency

Attack: creamy, sharp crisp bite, incoming sour

Mid-palate: smooth CO2, puckery pukey pink grapefruit sour, (lvl-4-sweetness), background citrusy sweet barley malt

Finish: subtle banana wheat malt, residual light tartness, dry bitter hops

Summary: Wow, such an interesting beer put together with distinct elements that transition perfectly. The barley-oats-wheat combo has transformed into a sour-citrusy grapefruit hop bomb – very cool. After having tasted just over a 1000 beers, I’m delighted that there are still unique styles I have yet to try.
