Visual: (cellared for 5.5 years). Pours translucent deep honey brown with much of a head, ring with a large island micro retention, a plethora of clustered fast micro streams.

Nose: honey toffee barley malt (lvl-6)-pungency

Attack: crisp-airy, malty-forward

Mid-palate: (lvl-5-sweetness), toffee caramel barley malt, background subtle boozy,

Finish: vanilla nuances, toffee’d whiskey’d oak, honey malt exhale

Summary: Smooth drinkability, no rough edges or offensive flavours/textures, but lacks in depth and punchiness. In other words, it’s not very memorable nor impressionable.

Attack: crisp

Mid-palate: (lvl-4-sweetness), toasted caramel barley malt, semi-dry cocoa, nutty overtones

Finish: subtle bittersweetness, residual malt exhale

Summary: Decent drinkability and balance. Medium bodied, but I wished for more fullness.

Visual: Pours clear dark copper brown with a spotty layer of 1mm fine retention, loose clusters of active fast streams.

Nose: nutty cocoa nib, hazelnut soft roasted coffee bean (lvl-4)-pungency

Attack: crisp, soft smooth-creamy, bursting sweet nutty malt flavour

Mid-palate: intermixed background bitter hops, (lvl-4-sweetness), cocoa nib, hazelnutty short bitter roasted cold brew coffee, sweet barley malt

Finish: lingering roasted coffee, residual hopped sharp bitter

Summary: Wow, wicked flawless integration of bitterness of IPA with the nutty notes of cold brew coffee. Bursting with flavour from the get go, I’m impressed by the fluidy of flavours and the balance of all the components. Awesome attack of that grabs your attention right away.

Visual: Cellared for 2 years (2013), gorgeous painted black ceramic bottle with a black bailer-top. Pours translucent ruby red with barely any head, a thin hazy micro layer, a few micro tightly knit micro streams here and there.

Nose: malty sweet caramel, lightly toasted, hints of bourbon, banana bread. (lvl-6)-pungency

Attack: slick-thick creamy, dense maltiness, background hoppy bitter, bourbon notes

Mid-palate: full-bodied, (lvl-5)-sweetness, alcohol detection, (main) medium roast barley malt, toasted caramel, orange citrus

Finish: bitter generic citrus hopped, off-dry malty finish.

Summary: Love the ceramic bottle. Big body with lots of toasted caramel malt and a citrus hop to balance it out. Kind of straightforward after a glass, but enjoyable.

Visual: Pours bright brown-orange with a smallish dissipating head, a thin spotty layer of micro retention, lots of scattered slow steady streams.

Nose: fruity citrus vibrant hops, sweet toffee malts. (lvl-6)-pungency

Attack: malty-oily slick mouthfeel, smooth entry

Mid-palate: (lvl-5)-sweetness, (MAIN) malty toffee sweet, resin, orange citrus

Finish: tingly-light burpy, clean light toasted malt, soft bitter grapefruit grassy hopped finish.

Summary: A very palatable and approachable IPA with soft but prominent flavours that aren’t too taxing in terms of bitterness.

Visual: Pours clear medium brown with barely any head, a thin even layer of retention, no streams just several bubbles here and there.

Nose: dried smoky chipotle pepper mixed with sweet toffee malt (lvl-5)-pungency

Attack: sharp dry crispness, bubbly-tingly-creamy mouthfeel

Mid-palate: (lvl-5)-sweetness, light acidity, (MAIN) toffee barley malt, orange citrus

Finish: lasting chipotle smokiness, very subtle spicy kick, soft light bitter hopped finish.

Summary: Not a whole lot of length other than the smoky chipotle, nor much depth. Just okay.

  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: sure, not amazing but solid

Visual: Pours nutty root beer brown with smallish foamy head, a very thin layer of micro retention, some decent lacing, some varied speed streams.

Nose: light brown sugar malts, smells like a brune (lvl-4)-pungency

Attack: very biting crisp, yeasty sourness

Mid-palate: background hopped sourness, (lvl-5)-sweetness, (MAIN) brown sugar malts, caramel, bready, yeasty

Finish: hint of quick spiciness,, smooth-crisp mouthfeel malty off-dry soft hopped bitter finish.

Summary: Very drinkable especially while still cold. Overall good body, mouthfeel, and flavour. Forgettable but not regrettable.

Visual: It says ale on the bottle which I bet is correct, but let’s just say it’s a lager because it drinks like one. Pours cloudy golden lager yellow with a smallish lasting creamy head, a thin layer of retention, some lacing, not that many slow singular streams.

Nose: faint citrus grassy malt (lvl-2)-pungency

Attack: crisp fizzy smoothness

Mid-palate: mellow (lvl-5)-lager sweetness, fizzy crisp, (MAIN) malts, honey, mild lemon citrus

Finish: persistent honey sweetness, very soft hopped bitter malty sweet finish.

Summary: Drinks like a medium-bodied lager, like an upgraded version of the big company beers out there (Kokanee, Bud, etc.). Not terribly complex or deep, it’s a nice meal beer.

Tasting notes: pours cloudy golden-orange from a beautiful re-corkable ceramic bottle, smallish head with micro-foamy CO2, stick lacing, a few slow streams. Citrus & honey on the nose. Drinks with a light foamy creaminess up front, 6/10-sweetness, liquid honey, light malts, jasmine, grapefruit/tangerine, transitioning into medium-sharp hops, med-thick-dry hoppy bitterness, finishing lingering hoppy-malty bitter. Medium complexity, med-high depth, good transitions, good drinkability (in a chilled glass). Somewhat heavy but balanced – the alcohol is well-hidden.

Tasting notes: pours maple syrup brown, smallish head, some slow-moving CO2 streams. Very intense and aromatic applewood & hickory smoke on the nose. A burst of hickory smoke up front, light and watery malts in the mids, light sweetness (3/10), minor saltiness, light maple caramel, finishes with a long smokiness and a light bitterness. Some medium sourness as the beer warms. Medium complexity, medium depth, good transitions, decent carry, good drinkability. Definitely a unique beer and one of the best looking bottles I’ve ever seen.
