10°, 2016 edition- Dageraad Brewing (Burnaby, BC, Canada)

10° – 2016 edition – Dageraad Brewing Inc., 10.5% ABV, 650ml., (Burnaby, BC, Canada) (*local BC craft beer*)

printed on the front-left label:

“Dageraad 10° is our secular homage to the strong, dark ale brewed by Trappist monks in Belgium. The strength of the wort and the addition of exotic unrefined sugars has tormented the yeast into producing magnificently complex fruit and spice notes to complement the beer’s malty profundity. Its flavour will develop for up to three years in the bottle if properly stored.”

  • Style: Quadruple
  • Taste:
  • Where I got it : BC Liquor Stores
  • How much: $10.70 CAD – 650ml., May 2016
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: no, too harsh

Visual: 2016 edition. Pours opaque cinnamon brown with a smallish long lasting ultra foamy fine 1mm head, a touch of lacing

Nose: candi sugar’d heavy barley malt (lvl-6)-pungency

Attack: heavy alcoholic malt impression

Mid-palate: persisent alcohol heaviness, background sour-tangy, (lvl-7-sweetness), brown sugar, light creamy/soft tingly, prune-raisin-fig, woody spice, heavy sweet barley malt

Finish: big alcohol harshness, malty woodiness, residual sweet candi sugar

Summary: Somewhat drinkable for a such a high ABV, but not a whole lot of finesse in execution of flavours. I can’t say I particularly enjoyed this brew – too harshly alcoholic and too sweet without an enticing delectability.
