West Song Wit – Spinnakers Brewpub, 4.5% ABV -15 IBU, 650ml., (Victoria, BC, Canada) (*local BC craft beer*)
-Ok I got suckered into buying another Spinnakers beer; honestly though this should be the last, or perhaps second last.
on the front-right label:
“Light, sessionable, and perfect for a summer day, this classic witbier was brewed with coriander, fresh orange zest and Vancouver Island grown red fife wheat. Stroll the Westsong Walkway along the ocean for a pint at the pub!”
- Style: Witbier
- Taste: Fruity off-dry pear banana wheat malt apple light roughish finish
- Where I got it : BC Liquor Stores
- How much: $6.65 CAD – 650ml., August 2016
- Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
- Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: still can’t say it’s great
Visual: Pours opaque cloudy marmalade orange with a smallish head, a 1mm layer of retention, surfacing bubbles.
Nose: pressed woody apple juice, strong notes of pear juice – quite nice. (lvl-7)-pungency
Attack: light crisp, orchard fruity-juicy
Mid-palate: pear, banana wheat malt, (lvl-2-sweetness), red apple juice
Finish: yeastiness, mild coriander, subtle hopped bitter, wheat malt dry
Summary: Finally a decent/more decent/decenter Spinnakers beer that has some amount of depth and complexity to it. The finish is a bit rough but the mid is quite delicious especially straight into a chilled glass accompanied by a hot meal.
