The Craft BeerAdvent Calendar 2014 Day #22
- My Rating: [B+], I gave it a (3.7 of 5) on Ratebeer.com
Rooie Dop Final Countdown Winter Saison – Brewed at Brouwerij de Molen, 6.5% ABV – 330ml., (Netherlands)
- Style: (smoked) Saison
- Taste: Sweet crisp honey wheat malt subtle smoky pukey tangy sour
- Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
- Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes, but it’s retired
Visual: Pours cloudy marmalade orange with a largish dissipating head, 1mm layer of micro fine retention, lots of tight steady streams, large bits of sediment settled at the bottom of the glass.
Nose: honey, subtle smoked sweet malt (lvl-4)-pungency
Attack: very crisp-tingly, micro fizzy
Mid-palate: (lvl-7)-sweetness, (MAIN) banana wheat malt, light sour, honey, apricot, tangy pukiness, smokiness
Finish: residual barley malt sweetness, wood smoked exhale, light burpy, subtle hop bitter finish.
Summary: Interesting flavours held together nicely with crisp-fizzy texture and fullness in the body. I enjoyed the smoky twist to the saison, good balance.
