The Craft BeerAdvent Calendar 2014 Day #15
- My Rating: [C], I gave it a (2.7 of 5) on Ratebeer.com
Karoo Red – Porcupine Quill Brewing Co., 5.5% ABV – 330ml., (South Africa)
- Style: Amber Ale
- Taste: Tangy light roast dark fruit barley malt
- Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
- Would I recommend this to beer aficionados:
Visual: Pours jatoba reddish-brown with minimal dissipating head, micro ringed retention, lots of varied speed streams.
Nose: sweet heavy malted barley, fig/date. (lvl-8)-pungency
Attack: crisp-watery thin
Mid-palate: fizzy-micro tingyly, (lvl-7)-sweetness, (MAIN) light roasted tangy barley malt, almost woody, chestnut -> sourness
Finish: burpy, lingering malty sweet, subtle bitter hopped finish.
Summary: A drinkable brew of mainly tangy sweet barley malt with some dark fruit. I found the entry watery and the sourness threw me off a bit. Just average.
