Central City/Parallel 49 2015 Craft Crossing Calendar Day #11
- My Rating: [B+, upgraded from B-], I gave it a (3.5 of 5) on Ratebeer.com
The Toques of Hazzard Imperial White IPA – Parallel 49 Brewing Co., 9.2% ABV – 341ml., (Vancouver, BC, Canada)
-I had this back in February of 2015 as part of the 2014 Calendar, decided to re-taste it because of the high ABV. Head on over to the previous review here.
- Style: Imperial (White) IPA
- Taste: Sweet full toffee malt sweet heavy alcoholic grapefruit pulp bitter hops
- Do I love this enough to drink it again: no, well yes apparently
- Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: try it to believe
(February 2015 tasting): Visual: Pours hazy pale orange with a quickly dissipating small head, a super-fine thin layer of retention, extra-micro CO2 fast and slow streams. Nose: bright fruity orange citrus, hints of banana wheat. (lvl-7)-pungency. Attack: incoming bitter citrus hops, micro tingly-bubbly mouthfeel. Mid-palate: (lvl-5)-sweetness, (MAIN) pine hops, orange, grapefruit, light malt. Finish: banana-wheat, lingering hoppy bitterness. Summary: Good texture, citrus flavours, pronounced hoppiness, well-hidden alcohol, nice drinkability.
[December 12, 2015 re-tasting]:
Visual: Pours pale straw yellow without much head, very thin hazy retention, a few bubbles here and there – not much.
Nose: mild citrus, caramel malt (lvl-3)-pungency
Attack: incoming heavy sweet malts
Mid-palate: creamy-micro fizzy mouthfeel, (MAIN) toffee malts w/ (lvl-7)-sweetness, alcohol heaviness, grapefruit pulp
Finish: CO2 tingly, half sharp bitter hops, grapefruit tangy sweet malt finish.
Summary: Significantly less CO2 activity this time and a much weaker nose. This time I’m noticing more of the creamy mouthfeel and malty sweetness. This 2015 batch seems better than the 2014 – more full and roundness.
