Central City/Parallel 49 2015 Craft Crossing Calendar Day #9
- My Rating: [A-], I gave it a (3.9 of 5) on Ratebeer.com
Bodhisattva Dry Hopped Sour – Parallel 49 Brewing Co., 7.5% ABV – 341ml., (Vancouver, BC, Canada)
description from ratebeer.com:
“Sour white dry-hopped with mosaic and citra, aged in French chardonnay barrels”
on the front-left label:
“You still haven’t found out what beer is all about, have you? It’s a state of mind… A place where you lose yourself and find yourself. You don’t know it yet, but you got it. It’s right here. Tart, complex and fruity. Little hand says it’s time to rock and roll.”
- Style: (Chardonnay, barrel-aged) Sour Ale
- Taste: Red apple Chardonnay lemon light funk sour & tart champagne beer
- Do I love this enough to drink it again: yes!
- Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: quite special, it being a local beer
Visual: Pours clear paled golden yellow with a decent sized dissipating head, a 0.5mm layer of retention, lots of very fast tightly knit streams, large CO2.
Nose: tangy pressed apple juice, apricot, peach; some funk, (lvl-8)-pungency
Attack: immediate puckery sour-tart, fizzy/light creamy, incoming major tartness
Mid-palate: sustained sour & tart, (lvl-5)-sweetness, (MAIN) red apple, lemon, chardonnay grape/champagne, background sweet grain malt
Finish: residual sourness, stealth hops, light grape exhale, sweet-tart finish.
Summary: Very interesting, the flavour drinks like a Champagne but the sourness and super subtle hops and malt are characteristically a beer = an fabulous marriage of flavours and texture. I was surprised to find such a gem in the beer calendar.
