Time Warp Wet-hopped Pale Ale – Townsite Brewing Inc. (Powell River, BC, Canada)

Time Warp Wet-hopped Pale Ale – Townsite Brewing Inc., 5.2% ABV (or 5.5%? both are listed on the front label) – 60 IBU, 650ml., (Powell River, BC, Canada) (*local BC craft brew*)

-This is my first tasting of a Townsite brew, what better way to kick it off with a fresh seasonal. In case you’re wondering, Texada Island is a tiny island located northwest of Vancouver.

description from ratebeer.com:

“Let’s do the Time Warp – AGAIN!
time warp: noun: 1. what you step into when you step off the ferry on Texada Island; 2. a delicious wet-hopped pale ale.
We hand-picked 38 kilos of local hops and added them to the brew immediately to produce this delicious pale ale. It’s not an IPA, but it still packs a big hop punch so prepare for your nose hairs to curl up and let out a happy sigh.
Fresh-hopped beers are designed for immediate enjoyment so do not cellar this one! ”

  • Style: (wet hop) Pale Ale
  • Taste: Creamy toasted barley malt astringent bitter hops
  • Where I got it : Bottle Jockey, N. Bby
  • How much: $7.40 (after 5% off) – 650ml., September 2015
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: no

Visual: Pours clear pale copper brown with a small foamy head, thin murky layer of retention, half-sticky lacing, a few slow singular streams.

Nose: brown sugar, toasted barley malt, (lvl-5)-pungency

Attack: slick-creamy, immediate medium bitterness

Mid-palate: (lvl-4)-sweetness, subdued mild sour, (MAIN) toasted barley malt, light grassy

Finish: hoppy astringent bitter finish.

Summary: Mainly a toasted barley malt profile but I’m not liking the astringency in the hops; it’s has a bitterness similar to burnt food.
