- My Rating: B
Imperiale High Gravity Stout – Ninkasi Brewing, 9.1% ABV – 1 pint 6 fl.oz., (Eugune, Oregon, USA)
on the front-side label:
“Rich, full bodied and surprisingly smooth this Imperial Stout has a big roast hit up front balanced by ample hop bitterness.
The ancient Sumerians worshipped the beer they made, and praised the Goddess Ninkasi for the miracle of fermentation. Beer is a staple of civilization. Worship the Goddess!”
- Style: Imperial Stout
- Taste: Silky fizzy roasted bittersweet coffee caramel choco malt
- Where I got it : Brewery Creek
How much: $7 (after 10% off) – 1 pint 6 fl.oz., October 2013
- Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
- Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes
Visual: Pours super dark brown with barely any head, a thin layer of retention, some minimally visible activity.
Nose: roasted caramel malts. (lvl-5)-pungency
Attack: crisp silky-fizzy mouthfeel, incoming dark caramel
Mid-palate: (lvl-6)-sweetness, (MAIN) soy sauce, deep roasted malts, coffee, caramel, chocolate, licorice
Finish: mild-medium sourness, bittersweet mocha roasted bitter finish.
Summary: A solid full-bodied stout with great smoothness and drinkability despite the 9.1%. The finish could be a bit smoother but otherwise a steal for the price.
