Spruce Tip Stout – Collaboration of Main Street Brewing, 33 Acres Brewing, R&B Brewing (brewed here), Red Truck Beer, Brassneck tasting room, and Brewery Creek Liquor Store. , 3.9% ABV – 650ml., (Vancouver, BC, Canada)

on the back label:

  • Style: (Spruce tip) Flavoured Stout
  • Taste: Sour raspberry spruce roasted burnt bitter malted coffee
  • Where I got it : Brewery Creek
  • How much: $7 (after 10% off) – 650ml., October 2013
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: no

Visual: This has a very unique cotton-thread badge-like label glued onto the bottle. Very cool. Also it’s a collab beer of several Vancouver breweries. Pours beer bottle dark brown with no head, a very thin ringed retention, and not that many very slow streams.

Nose: raspberry, deep roasted malts, coffee. (lvl-7)-pungency

Attack: tingly-fizzy, sour acidity

Mid-palate: medium-high sour, medium tart, (lvl-4)-sweetness, (MAIN) spruce tip (of the needles), raspberry, malts, coffee

Finish: medium roast malts, burnt coffee bitter w/ lingering spruce finish.

Summary: An interesting flavour profile if like me, you’ve never had a spruce tip beer  before. A bit too sour from start to mids, and falling flat on flavour and body in the finish. Different, but not good enough to recommend.
