- My Rating: A-
Tiger Tripel – Nøgne Ø (Nogne O), 9% ABV – 0.5L., (Grimstad, Norway)
on the front side label:
“A tripel is light, strong with big, dense and creamy head. It’s balanced with a sweet finish. We at Nøgne Ø like to do things our own way. ‘How to make a signature flavour in a Tripel?’, we asked ourselves at one point. We concluded that peat smoked malt of Scottish origin was the answer. Subtle yet present. Enjoy at 6°C with cheeses, seafood or poultry. This product is unpasteurized and unfiltered.”
- Style: Tripel
- Taste: Peach subtly smoked malts soft hopped bitter
- Where I got it : Brewery Creek
How much: $10 (after 10% off) – 0.5L., September 2013
- Do I love this enough to drink it again: unlikely
- Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes
Visual: A menacing tiger on the label for a menacing 9% ABV beer… Pours golden marmalade orange, no head, very thin ringed retention, lots of micro CO2 steady streams scattered throughout.
Nose: faint peach fruity malts. (lvl-2)-pungency
Attack: balanced smooth mouthfeel
Mid-palate: tingly crisp mouthfeel, (lvl-5)-sweetness, (MAIN) peach/apricot, grassy malts, mild alcohol bitterness
Finish: fruity-sweet + lightly smoked soft-hoppy bitter crisp finish.
Summary: Once again, Nøgne Ø doesn’t disappoint with their take on a Tripel. Full-flavoured yet supremely drinkable, this one is awesome and smooth for a 9%.
