Henry Westons 2011 Vintage Oak Aged Cider (Herefordshire, UK)

  • My Rating: C+

Henry Westons 2011 Vintage Oak Aged Cider – Westons, 8.2% ABV – 500ml., (Herefordshire, UK)

  • Style: (oak-aged, vintage) Apple Cider
  • Taste: oaked apple lager
  • Where I got it : Liberty Wines, Park Royal
  • How much: $10 (overpriced) – 500ml., September 2013
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
  • Would I recommend this to cider aficionados: no

Visual: Pours light golden yellow, initially with lots of fizz, no head retention at all, no activity, a barren wasteland.

Nose: oaked filtered apple juice, some sour/tanginess, minor funk (4/10-pungency)

Attack: watery, sour

Mid-palate: almost salty, light tingly-crisp, (5/10)-fruity sweetness, (MAIN) lots of oak, very yeasty, mellow apple flavour

Finish: lager-like crisp sweet oaked apple finish.

Summary: Drinks like a semi-sweet oaked apple flavoured lager. The oakiness really stands out but other than that, it’s quite unexciting.
