Mongozo Fruit Beer (Belgium)

Mongozo (Belgium)

1) Mango, 3.6% ABV, (brewed with Fairtrade Mangos)

My notes:
  • My Rating: B+
  • Why I like it: bright sweet fruit yet not cloying
  • Where I got it: Keg n Cork (EDM)
  • How much: $4 , June 2012
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: yes
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes

Tasting notes: pours translucent orange/yellow with minimal head, micro CO2, lots of slow-moving CO2 streams. Bright mango fruit juice on the nose, as well as notes of papaya. Drinks fruity sweet (8/10) up front but quickly transitions into aromatic Haden mango, papaya, light malts, and finishes with just a touch of bitterness on the tongue. Low-medium complexity, medium depth, great transitions, good carry, excellent drinkability. A very interesting and refreshing fruit beer.

2) Banana, 3.6% ABV, (brewed with Fairtrade Bananas)

My notes:
  • My Rating: B+
  • Why I like it: actual sweet banana flavour
  • Where I got it: Keg n Cork (EDM)
  • How much: $4 , June 2012
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: yes
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes

Tasting notes: pours light golden yellow, minimal head, a bit of sediment. Syrupy banana and pineapple on the nose. It drinks quite fruity sweet but in an easygoing inviting way. Tastes mainly of banana candy, pineapple juice, light malts, and ends clean and smooth. Low complexity, medium depth, good transitions, good carry, excellent drinkability. I dig these kind of easy-drinking yet flavourful and non-watery beers.
