Akevitt Porter – HaandBryggeriet (Norway)

Akevitt Porter – HaandBryggeriet, 8% ABV, (Norway)

On the back label:

“The old farm breweries of Norway made special beers- dark, hearty, earthy beers like the classic porter – for weddings, christenings, funerals or any occasion at all. Haandbryggeriet makes a living beer, not pasteurized nor filtered, but re-fermented in the bottle to create natural carbonation.”

My notes:
  • My Rating: A-
  • Why I like it: it’s got rich coffee depth yet mellowed by aging
  • Where I got it: Keg n Cork (EDM)
  • How much: $9 , June 2012
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes

Tasting notes: pours coffee black, big creamy foamy head. Tastes of mellow roasted coffee. 7/10 sweetness. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and a mildly alcoholic finish. Medium-high complexity, high depth, good transitions, great carry, good drinkability. It drinks somewhat sweet and hits pretty hard.
