Hop Ottin’ IPA, 7% ABV, (Boonville, California)

On the label:

Hop-Heads, your dreams have come true! Hop Ottin’ is Boontling for “hardworking hops,” and they’re surely hard at work in this brew. Hop Ottin’ starts with a strong floral aroma, which winds into a deep and complex body. In an intriguing balance, honey-drenched malts coat rich hop undertones. At length, the hops prevail, with a satisfyingly crisp finish. Hop Ottin’ bites like a cankicky bluetail (Hop Ottin’ bites like a rattlesnake looking for a fight.)

My notes:
  • My Rating: A-
  • Why it’s special: mellow bitter citrus with a creamy mouthfeel
  • Where I got it: W. 16th Liquor Store
  • How much: $6.50 , 1 pt 6floz., Feb/2012
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: yes, with friends
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: yes

Tasting notes: pours clear dark orange, nice lasting foamy head, lots of slow-moving CO2 streams. Hops and tangerine on the nose. Soft bitter hops up front, mellow sweetness and creaminess, clean tangerine peel, medium malts, and a crisp clean lingering bitter finish. Medium complexity, medium depth, great transitions, great carry, excellent drinkability. An ultra-smooth IPA that is balanced and not overly aggressive.
